What Treatments are Best in Winter/February

Wintertime can be a good season to jump into treatments you might otherwise be less able to do in the warmer months.

Typically, the spring & summer (and even autumn in North Carolina!) involve more exposure to the sun, heat, and the elements, all of which can be no-nos for certain treatments. Take advantage of these winter-friendly treatments.

Lasers & IPL for skin rejuvenation.

We often refer to the winter as “laser season” as a tan/sun exposure is the ultimate contraindication for laser treatments. We ask that you avoid direct sun for several weeks before and after a laser treatment, because it can cause issues otherwise. Since you’re less likely to be in the sun in NC in winter (unless you’re off skiing in the mountains, or traveling to somewhere warm & tropical – in which case, we’re totally jealous!), the cold months are the perfect time to get your skin in tip top shape! We offer IPL (not technically a laser, it’s actually a light-based treatment) for pigment for lighter skin tones, skin resurfacing for all skin tones (see the Resurfacing section of this blog post for more details), and picosecond laser treatments for melasma/darker skin tones.

Laser Hair Removal.

No more worrying about those pesky and uncomfortable razor bumps in your bikini area or underarms! If you want to be able to ditch the razor this summer, start LHR now. Usually these results begin a few weeks after your first treatment but can be essentially semi-permanent after a few treatments. The catch: these treatments are anywhere from 4-12 weeks apart, so now is the perfect time to start in order to be ready for your beach vaca later this year!

Sclerotherapy for spider veins.

Because this injectable treatment requires several treatments 6 weeks apart, if you start now you’ll be ready to showcase your vein-free legs in your Easter dress this spring! We have a special page dedicated just to FAQs on spider veins and varicose veins, so check it out here. One main reason to get sclerotherapy done in winter and not in the summer: you’ll have to wear compression stockings anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks after treatment, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t know of anyone who wants to do that in the eastern NC humidity!

Chemical Peels.

Some of the chemical peels we offer (like BioRePeel) can be summer-friendly, but the deeper ones (like Perfect Derma Peel) are not. Having sun exposure after a deeper chemical peel runs the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation and sunburn. If you’re wanting that satisfying, true medical grade peel you can only get with a medical skin clinic like Elevated Aesthetics, you’ll need to make sure to plan it when you’re not going to be in the sun. Which means winter is the (*insert chef’s kiss here) perfect time to do chemical peels.

Lip Filler.

Obviously, we couldn’t let a reference to February and Valentine’s Day go by without a nod to lip filler. We love a pretty, hydrated, natural-looking lip at Elevated Aesthetics! Because bruising can occur for a few days after lip filler, plan ahead for that perfect little pout just in time for Valentine’s! We promise we’ll give you just enough, and no less but also no more!

There are so many options to choose from at Elevated Aesthetics, so we hope this helped you narrow down and prioritize your list of treatment options. If you still have questions, feel free to book a consultation (new patients) or “gameplan visit” (existing patients) – we’re here to help & guide you!
