Allergies & Under Eye Puffiness

This is the time of year for under eye puffiness to become an issue, thanks to the pollen and allergies! Here are a few things you can do to help this area this spring, according to Tara McLamb, our board-certified Nurse Practitioner at Elevated Aesthetics:

Treat the skin around the eye with lots of love.
    • Dispense half a pump of your eye cream to ring finger, & dot lightly to under eyes, crows feet, even eye lids and above brow. Treating the entire eye adds hydration which will help improve lymphatic drainage.
Keep it cool.
  • In the mornings, use stainless steel or glass globes (like THESE) kept in the fridge and lightly encircle your puffy eyes after applying your eye cream. Cool applications help calm the histamine response going on from allergies; combining it with light massage will also improve lymphatic flow and drainage.
Bring out the big guns.
  • Try anti-allergy medications like Allegra coupled with an intranasal steroid spray like Flonase. Tackling your systemic allergies will usually help with localized allergy responses like eye puffiness.
Bag those bags.
  • Try an eye cream that specifically targets eye bags, like skinbetter’s Instant Effect Gel Eye serum or Colorescience’s Total Eye Concentrate.
Move that lymph.
  • Perform lymphatic massage of the eyes. Watch this video by our own licensed esthetician, Allie Wall on how to do it: (LINK HERE)
